What is an Oral Surgeon?
Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are dental specialists who treat conditions, defects, injuries, and esthetic aspects of the mouth, teeth, jaws, and face. Their training includes a four-year doctorate degree in dentistry and completion of a minimum four-year hospital oral and maxillofacial surgical residency program. Some oral and maxillofacial surgeons will also complete a couple more years of training to obtain a medical degree.
